THE BASICS OF HIV AND AIDS

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells) that help the body fight off infections and diseases. When left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), which is the final stage of the infection. Here are some basic facts about HIV and AIDS: Transmission: HIV can be transmitted through the exchange of certain body fluids, including blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. The most common modes of transmission include unprotected sexual intercourse, sharing contaminated needles or syringes, and transmission from an HIV-positive mother to her child during childbirth, breastfeeding, or pregnancy. Symptoms: Many people with HIV may not experience any symptoms initially. However, some individuals may develop flu-like symptoms within a month or two after infection.
